June 5, 2020 UPDATE

Starting on Sunday, June 7, we are moving to an optional mask policy.  There will still be masks available, when you enter the church lobby.  Hand sanitizer will be readily available and our facility cleaning and sanitizing will continue to be very thorough.

OUR REALITY

  1.  Churches are essential.  Throughout this crisis, churches have been deemed 'essential' by our PA government.  Full disclosure, Jesus, who happens to have all authority, has already declared that a few thousand years ago.  Somebody better be saying, AMEN (Matthew 28)
  2. Churches are exempt..  Throughout this crisis, churches have been considered exempt from the state mandates.  That said, we desire to honor God and one way we can do that is to honor our government.  Furthermore, we desire to love our church and our city.  So it was clear that the wise decision was to stop meeting in-person for a time.  (Romans 13. Matthew 22)
  3. Churches are designed for community.  Throughout this crisis, the most repeated frustration and difficulty that we encountered was people having to struggle through this alone and not being able to share the burdens of this time with family and our church family.  The Bible clearly teaches that it is not good for us to be alone and it is not good for us to stop meeting together as a church.  (Genesis 2.  Hebrews 10)

OUR RESPONSE

There are two guides that are in place at this time.  One is a <25 person gathering limit and the other is a 50% of occupancy limit for businesses that have customers who enter their buildings.  As these guides are applied in various situations, the overriding rule in both cases though is to maintain social distance and have proper mitigation.

At City Church, we have decided to have a hybrid response to these guidelines.  While maintaining social distance, we plan to gather as a church, be at limited capacity, and properly mitigate before and after each gathering.

That said, it may not be safe for everyone to begin gathering together.  Some will need to exercise wisdom and remain home for a period of time.  I would strongly encourage you to stay home and join our live-stream, if you are sick, not feeling well, susceptible, uncertain, or have reasons to be concerned to both yourself and others.

Understanding that it is a wise decision for a number of our church families/persons to stay home, we will continue to implement online ministries and opportunities.  We want to stay connected with all of you.  Just to be clear, we understand that whether you continue to stay home or join us in-person, communicates nothing in regards to your level of spiritual maturity or commitment to the Lord.  Many of you will stay home precisely because you love the Lord and love your neighbor.  In either case, please know that you are a valuable part of God's church and that you are loved and prayed for by your family at City Church.

THE DETAILS

  1. Church Services: Beginning THIS SUNDAY, MAY 17th, we will resume meeting in-person in a limited capacity. Our church family is invited to join us on Sunday mornings and Thursday evenings for our live-streaming services.  It will have the look and feel of being in the live audience at a TV talk show.
  2. Safety protocol:  Everyone will need to wear a mask.  We will have masks available at the church, if needed.  Every highly touched surface will be sanitized:  door handles, handrails, tables, chairs, etc.  Every space will have an abundance of hand sanitizer stations.
  3. Everyone is invited to come 30 minutes before the service to pray with us.

As we head into June, we are developing a 30-day plan for the church that you will be invited to commit to with us.  It will include training opportunities, ministry opportunities, prayer groups, etc.  There will be online options for most of these initiatives.

May 9, 2020 UPDATE

Yesterday, as you probably know already, Lawrence County entered the 'Yellow Phase'. If you want to read more about this update, please checkout the PA Coronavirus website:  https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Coronavirus.aspx

This new phase means that we can begin in-person gatherings in a limited capacity.  At the church, we are joyfully and prayerfully planning out a strategy, so that we can begin gathering in a safe and responsible manner.  I will be updating with more details and information this coming week.  Please pray with us!

That said, it may not be safe for everyone to begin gathering together.  Some will need to exercise wisdom and remain home for a period of time.  Please know that we intend to continue with our online content and ministries in this new phase.  Actually, the hope is to offer even more online content: services, studies, training, groups, and prayer times.

City Church Family,

We want you to know that we are monitoring the situation with the coronavirus. In times like this, we desire to operate with faith and wisdom instead of fear.  We are praying that the Lord will heal all of those who are sick and bring a quick end to this virus. Furthermore, we are praying that God will use His church, especially during this time, to minister to their people and communities.  We are taking proactive steps to reduce risks for our church by modifying our services during this season.  Here are a few examples:

  • We will sanitize highly touched surfaces: door handles, tables, chairs, etc.
  • There will be hand sanitizer dispensers available throughout the church.
  • Kids’ toys and rooms will be sanitized before each service.
  • We will continue to broadcast our service Live on Facebook.  If you are sick, susceptible to this illness or just concerned, we strongly encourage you to stay home and please join us online.  You can easily find us on Facebook, @nccitychurch.

For the health of you, your family, and our community, please follow the recommendations of the CDC.

The uncertainty of this outbreak is creating anxiety in our workplaces, schools, and day-to-day activities; yet, we remain certain of God’s faithfulness and goodness.  Please join us in praying for those who are affected by this illness, as well as their caregivers and those who are working around the clock to minimize the impact of this virus.  Please also pray about how God can use us at City Church to care for those in need at this time.

March 17, 2020 6:47 p.m. UPDATE

COVID-19's presence is creating a really unique opportunity for us to serve and to be "the hands and feet" of Jesus.  We are excited to partner with you on what's next!  Television's children host Mr. Rogers said his mother responded to scary news by telling him, 'Look for the helpers.'  We're hoping people can look for us because we will be pointing them straight back to Jesus, whom our help comes from!

  • If you would like to help with food distribution, please send an email to info@citychurchofnewcastle.org
